It is the policy of the Winthrop Harbor Police Department to investigate any allegations of misconduct against a member of the department in order to determine the merit and substance of the complaint. We strive to treat each person we encounter with courtesy, dignity, and respect and understand the integrity of the department depends on the integrity of each member.

This notice is intended to provide information and guidance to persons wishing to file a complaint concerning the conduct of a member of the Winthrop Harbor Police Department.

You may speak to an employee’s supervisor in person or via phone to discuss and resolve any issues. If you feel the supervisor cannot resolve the issue, you may contact the Chief of Police.

You can present your complaint in writing to any supervisor and the employee’s immediate supervisor will initiate an investigation. The results of that investigation will be forwarded to the Chief of Police. While you will be notified of the results of that investigation, usually within 30 days, we cannot release any information regarding discipline against an employee.

It is also the policy of the Department to recognize superior performance.

If you would like to compliment any member of the Department for work you feel is worthy of recognition, you may do so by:

1) Contacting any supervisor either by phone at 847 872-2131 or in person
2) Email your comments to the Chief of Police

Any compliments received will be documented and conveyed to the employee. A copy of the recognition will also be placed in the employee’s personnel file.
